Mt Macedon fire article posted on CFA Connect
A story has been posted onto CFA Connect regarding the house fire in Mt Macedon earlier this morning.
Here are the opening pars:
CFA crews battled a massive house fire in Mt Macedon earlier this morning, finally extinguishing the intense blaze after a 35 minute firefight.
Six tankers and 30 firefighters from Mt Macedon, Macedon and Gisborne responded just before midnight Monday evening at Zig Zag Road, Mt Macedon, and were immediately confronted with a fully involved fire.

Catering for Porsche Club Family Day on Sunday 18 April
Just a message to fill you in on what is required for the Porsche Club Family Day Catering on Sunday, 18 April.
At this stage, it looks like we will be catering for approx. 60 adults and 30 children – that is yet to be confirmed. They will be arriving at Ryders Reserve at around 12.30 for lunch.
They would like – sandwiches, quiche or similar, sausages in bread (Mike has volunteered to help with these), cakes and scones, lemon cordial (I will make) and tea and coffee. They are hoping to get a coffee cart which they will let me know about and this might then drop off the tea and coffee. As well as the lemon cordial, they want some cans of coke which I thought, we might sell to whoever wants these – not sure on that. I think some icy poles for the kids might be a good idea too. They will be paying us $15 per adult and I don’t recall working out a price for children but will work that out with Janet from the Porsche Club who I have been communicating with. Janet had also suggested inviting the local children to join in on this day but I’m not sure how to handle that as that would affect catering and we don’t want a bigger job. The only option I had thought of was that they bring a plate to share??
The bad news is that neither Gayle nor I will be able to do this one. I will be able to cook but not be able to be there on the day – sorry.
It would be good to get an indication of who might be available to help on this day, and who would be able to help with food. If you can help in any way, can you please let me know?
Thanks,
Lois

Whittlesea CFA Championships media release
Please find attached a media release that was sent last week publicising the Whittlesea Rural Fire Brigades State Championships.
Stories will be appearing in this week’s papers promoting the event along with photos (I expect this to be available as part of the Media Report). It’s likely that newspaper photographers will be at the championships on the weekend to take photos of the competition.
A version of this will also appear on CFA Connect as a story along with some photos.

Mention in Parliament - Footsteps in the Ash
Footsteps in the Ash is a record of the devastation of the St Andrews and Strathewen communities where 37 people died and 117 homes were lost. The authors of the book, Mr Usher and Mr Gudgeon, live in St Andrews and were minutes away from being victims of the fires themselves.
Over a 10-month period they sensitively interviewed 80 survivors and 65 firefighters to compile these compelling stories and photographs, in the process becoming a listening post for the trauma of locals, many of whom have still not recovered. The initial print run of Footsteps in the Ash was funded by the Hurstbridge and Diamond Creek branches of the Bendigo Community Bank, which they should be commended for. The photographic exhibition that went alongside the book was financially supported by Harold Mitchell.
The book stands as an important record of this tragedy, but the photos themselves need to be preserved also as a record for future generations in honour of those who were lost. Both the member for Seymour and I have the privilege of representing the communities of Strathewen and St Andrews. I know that he supports the retention and preservation of these photographs, and the communities are very anxious for this to occur. I urge the minister to do all in his power to support this worthy project which has wide community support.

Low structure minimum skills
While this is mandatory for the new recruits to complete their minimum skills training, we want all brigade members to attend to re-learn this subject. We get very few calls to structure so it is very worthwhile reinforcing it.
Please ensure these dates are in your diary.

Catering Job
We have been asked if we would like to cater for a lunch on Wednesday 10 March at the Strathewen Community Centre. There is a bus load of people who are touring the Bushfire areas around here including visiting Malcolm Hackett's property. They are from Catchment Management Authority, Melbourne Water and Parks Vic. About 50 people
Seeing as we have had a fairly quiet time of late we thought it would be a good idea to accept.
So if you are available to help by making sandwiches, baking scones or cakes, or cutting up fruit please let me know. We will also need a little help on the day please.
Our next meeting will be held the evening after our catering job - Thursday 11 March, 8.00 p.m. at the Arthurs Creek Fire Station.
Thanks
Gayle

Sunbury Fire Brigade Torchlight Procession
Due to the timeframes involved, I thought I should send an e-mail to you all just to let you know what is happening, just in case you haven't received our invitation yet.
Sunbury Fire Brigade are holding a Torchlight Procession this year on Saturday 20th March 2010 after resolving our differences with the local festival committee.
For those that have attended in the past, details are very similar and we have secured the services of both the Rats of Tobruk and Stonnington Brass Band, with another being negotiated.
An information sheet will be sent to those Brigades that are attending and the RSVP is Friday 12th March 2010.
Any issues can be e-mailed to myself (and please note that Sunbury is using the new Brigades on Line e-mail system).
Thanks for your time and hope to see you there.
