Doreen & District Steering Committee - Apology

Dear All,

Circumstances unfortunately arose whereby the special Grants presentation meeting to be held last night had to be cancelled.

While we endeavoured to contact everyone by phone to advise of the cancellation ,there may have been someone missed .I apologise to not only those of you in that category but also to everyone else concerned.

The presentations will now be done on Wednesday the 10th June at the Mernda Football Club,Schotters Rd. Mernda commencing at 6.30pm.

We especially invite you to attend this very important night with as many of your group as possible . This is an evening where you can see the tangible benefits establishment of a Bendigo Community Bank can bring to local groups & organisations.Some $30,000 will be allocated to those who applied for assistance.

Tea,coffee & biscuits will be provided and it would be helpful for catering if you would please advise the numbers attending from your organisation.

email me or phone

Media Report (note: large file)

CFA Connect is now active!

Hi all,

On Monday 11 May, Fire Flyer's illustrious career came to an end, and the next level of CFA's online communications was born—CFA Connect http://www.cfaconnect.net.au/

With blog capabilities, forum and self-publishing abilities, CFA Connect is the website for all members—and you are invited to participate. Register and contribute news, pics and video—and you can be read and seen by members across the state and all over the Internet!

To become a registered CFA Connect member you'll need a CFA Online (Brigades Online and the Intranet) login, though, so if you don't have one, organise a login now by following these simple steps. (Note that you need to create a separate CFA Connect account. You cannot log in to CFA Connect with your CFA Online details).If you're not a CFA member and you'd still like to join the discussion, you'll be able to sign up as well. And, of course, anybody can browse the site like you would Fire Flyer; no login required.

Navigating around CFA Connect is easy. As an example, click on the news tab on top of the page http://www.cfaconnect.net.au/index.php/news/news/ and read the latest news across the state. The news is also categorized on a region-by-region basis: go to the Browse by category/Region box and use the pull-down menu to choose Region 14 news.

You can read about some of the stuff happening at Region 14 today, including the following stories:

Bacchus Marsh saves water
http://www.cfaconnect.net.au/index.php/region-14-news/region-14/bacchus-marsh-cfa-partners-local-hospital-in-unique-water-saving-project.html
Bacchus Marsh CFA is at the forefront of an innovative water project that will help save the brigade up to three million litres of water per year.

Community engagement , touch footy style
http://www.cfaconnect.net.au/index.php/region-14-news/region-14/community-engagement-touch-footy-style.html
In an epic clash (not!), a scratch CFA team took to the footy field at Hoppers Crossing recently for a game of Touch AFL against the Mambourin Tigers, a local footy club made up of intellectually disabled players. In a close contest, the CFA blokes (and ladies) put up a brave effort but fitness (or lack thereof) and some dubious umpiring (read: umpire was club president) got the home team just over the line.

Again, I encourage everyone to have a browse of CFA Connect and to register and contribute to the site—and please spread the word to all your members!

For content enquiries (including proofing, editing, story suggestions etc), you can contact me for assistance (see my details below).

For site-specfic technical enquiries, please email admin@cfaconnect.net.au

Kind regards

Influenza update

There has been a lot of information in the press regarding the H1N1 virus that has now reached Victoria.

Presently the CFA are monitoring the situation and will provide further information/action if and when it is deemed necessary.

The best way to ensure that the risks of this (and more common) strains of influenza are to use the following steps:

  • hand washing with appropriate disinfectants (additional disinfectant hand wash has been ordered);
  • decontamination of surfaces;
  • particular attention to high-risk areas such as food preparation, bathrooms and toilets;
  • use of face masks (additional face masks in case of outbreak are being distributed to catchments today);
  • early detection and isolation of persons with flu-like symptoms (members with any of the following symptoms: high temperature, cough, sore throat, nasal congestion should not attend CFA premises until cleared by a health professional);
  • managing the return to service of all members from overseas travel (a wait of 7 days following return from overseas before attending CFA premises).

PPC update

Please view the new PPC update from the teleconference this week.

I would also like to reiterate that if any correspondence regarding the new PPC is required, that all correspondence is sent through to myself in the first instance.

There has been some movement on the racking system, there may now be a chance to get the funding allocated to the racking as funds for station improvement,

Eg if a station does not want the steel racking provided that they can have the funds moved to support the station refit/redevelopment

It is also important to advise those getting the new PPC, that the pants are to sit 2cm below the navel, they do not get pulled up as the over trousers do,

Any questions please ask,

Cheers,

Message to all CFA members from Neil Bibby

We are currently in the first days of the Royal Commission, the beginning of what will be a long and at times challenging process.

It is too early to speculate on what the Commissioners may recommend, but what I can reaffirm is that the CFA’s entire approach to our business is to try to continually improve what we do and how we do it.

We would have been doing this whether a Royal Commission was happening or not and it is fair to say that we all know that improvements can be made to make sure the impact of fire seasons, such as the one we have just had, are less likely to happen again.

We as an organization and as individual members will experience ‘ups and downs’ over the course of the Royal Commission. In some instances this will be caused by media reports and commentary as well as discussions within your Brigade, department or with friends.

During this period it is essential that we continue to stick together, support each other and stay focused on the critical job of providing professional emergency services to our communities.

Interim Guidelines for the use of Class A Recycled water

As Brigades may be aware the Aurora Estate in Epping North has in the last month switched over to using Class A recycled water for the use of residents on their properties. Class A recycled water is also available for fire fighting operations via purple marked hydrants.

Attached are interim guidelines for the use of Recycled water in fire fighting operations. These are to be used in conjunction with SOP 9.36 Recycled Water – Use and Management of.

Can you please review these guidelines and provide feedback to Operations Officer James Dullard so any enhancements or improvements can be made. Further information regarding the use of Class A recycled water will follow at a later time.

Next week via their BASO each Brigade will be provided 3 purple recycled water tags (with cable ties) per appliance for placement on delivery outlets when an appliance has been filled with recycled water. In the case of Tankers the purple tags are to be placed upon the underdeck outlets near the steps to serve as a reminder to crew climbing onto the deck that recycled water is in use. Pumpers will require purple tags on their delivery outlets as their configuration allows for.

If you have any concerns Justin Meli may be contacted on 0409 407 725 or James Dullard may be contacted on 0409 938 493.
