Spike in mice numbers sparks fire fears
Rodents in near plague proportions could spark house fires if they gnaw through exposed electrical wires, the CFA has warned. The mouse population had boomed in parts of Whittlesea, including Mernda, Doreen and South Morang, due to more feed from wet weather.

State Calls To Extend Bushfire Relief Funding
The Baillieu government has called on the federal government to extend bushfire recovery funding for councils. The funding was due to expire this month.

New station nears for St Andrews
St Andrews Fire Brigade has made use of its strong community ties, moving into a temporary shared facility, while its new station is built. Captain Helen Kenney said the brigade would move into the town’s community centre before moving into its new station before the upcoming fire season.
