North West Metro Media Report 10 June to 30 June 2011

Please find attached the North West Metro Media Report.

Brigades from across District 14 have responded to a number of large incidents recently, which have attracted significant media attention. This included a fire at the Nillumbik Shire Council offices in Greensborough, a fire earlier this week at the historic Diggers Rest general store and post office.

Also well highlighted in the media has been the addition of new career firefighters to the North West Metro Region. Brimbank Weekly featured an article on Caroline Springs recruits Tim O’Loughlin and Anthony Ivelja, while Greenvale’s David Lennox and Adam Leslie were profiled in the Hume Weekly and Tom Glassey and Paul Buck of Craigieburn in the Wallan-Kilmore-Broadford edition of the Star. CFA’s Winter Fire Safety campaign is receiving extensive media coverage around the State. Craigieburn Qualified Firefighter Ivan Reale further promoted this in his local newspaper, urging residents to take care with electrical appliances in their home.

All systems go at Wyndham Vale

At the push of a button, Wyndham Vale Fire Brigade became officially operational today. The new brigade - formally a satellite station of Werribee and known as Manor Lakes Fire Brigade – formed part of the CFA network about 9.30am.

Joe’s garden opening

Arthurs Creek & Strathewen RFB have celebrated the opening of Joe's Garden, a memorial garden built on Arthurs Creek fire station grounds honouring firefighter Joe Shepherd and other local residents that perished in the Black Saturday bushfires.

Upcoming news:

District 14’s Greenvale, Diggers Rest and Toolern Vale Fire Brigades are currently involved with an art exhibition at Federation Square. The brigade’s involvement in the event will be to light the inside of sixteen big drums with fire, which will line a path down to the river where there will be various art installations to do with the theme of ‘fire’. CFA members will also be promoting fire safety.
