Green Paper - Towards a More Disaster Resilient and Safer Victoria

I refer to the email below that requests feedback on the Government’s Green paper in respect to emergency management in Victoria (“Towards a More Disaster Resilient and Safer Victoria”).
The paper is available at http://www.dpc.vic.gov.au/index.php/featured/reforming-victorias-crisis-and-emergency-management-framework

The email invites feedback from all CFA members direct to the Manager, Office of the CEO, James Fox (j.fox@cfa.vic.gov.au) by the first week in October.

In addition, the email requests feedback by Regions. I have asked A/Regional Commander Mick Harris to collate NW Metro regional feedback.

You can therefore provide feedback directly to James Fox, or to Mick (M.Harris@cfa.vic.gov.au), or both if you so desire. Any feedback to Mick will need to be received no later than COB on Friday 30 September.

I apologise for the short timeframe.

It is important, given the release on Monday, 12 September of the Government’s Green Paper in respect to Emergency Services, that we put in place a process by which we can build some views for the Board to consider at its October meeting. I see the role of co-ordination of this Green Paper feedback to lie with the CEO and as such I think it is important that we start to collect the views of CFA members on the Green Paper. To this end I will use our available mechanisms to seek feedback across CFA. I see that the process of gaining feedback will be to invite comments from any CFA members to be directed to the Office of the CEO where James Fox will compile them for us. Likewise we will seek feedback from the Chairs of the District Planning Committees and again ask that their responses be directed to the CEO’s office (James Fox) and use that as an important feed in the process. I would invite Regional Managers and Executives to seek views if they can through their own teams, especially at the senior levels. Having collected that information, which should be completed by the first week of October, we will then bring about the Executives’ views for the Board’s consideration in a Board paper for the October meeting. Subject to the Board’s views and opinions at that October meeting, we will have time to refresh the paper in any way that needs to be done prior to submission on 14 November. Your support of this process with your people, with all our members and the Chairs of the DPCs would be much appreciated.

Thank you
