Rankines Road closure

Nillumbik Shire has notified us that Rankines Road Strathewen will be closed for erosion control works outside 105 Rankines Road from Monday 7 May to Friday 11 May. Queries can be made to Andrew Knight on 3433 3528.

Proposed name for Strathewen pavilion: The Peter Avola Memorial Pavilion

Nillumbik Council are inviting community feedback on the proposed name for the new pavilion in Strathewen: The Peter Avola Memorial Pavilion.

"Then The Wind Changed" Screens on ABC 1

The documentary film about Strathewen's recovery "Then The Wind Changed" will screen on Tuesday February 7 at 8.30pm on ABC 1.

7 Feb Ceremonies - 3rd Anniversary

The brigade will be holding a flag-lowering ceremony on Tuesday 7 Feb 18:00 at Arthurs Creek station to commemorate Black Saturday.  Blues to be worn.

We are holding it early to allow anyone who wishes to attend the Strathewen ceremony to get there in time.  All brigade members are invited.  Refer to the following for details of the Strathewen event:

Decommissioning of Neighbourhood Safer Place- Place of Last Resort_ Eltham Lower Park

This is to advise you that the Neighbourhood Safer Place- Place of Last Resort (NSP-PLR) at Eltham Lower Park has been assessed by CFA as not meeting the Fire Rating Criteria.

In accordance with Section 50J(4) of the Country Fire Authority Act the NSP-PLR must now be decommissioned.

Eltham Lower Park will no longer be listed on the CFA or Council web site as a NSP-PLR. Signage at the site will be removed.

CFA is preparing a report to advise council of what action would be required for the site to meet the Fire Rating Criteria.

Council has requested CFA to conduct an assessment of the club house at Eltham Lower Park to determine if that building does or can be made to meet the Fire Rating Criteria.

Alternative options for an NSP-PLR in this area will be explored.

INVITATION to "Then The Wind Changed" Premiere Screening

I would appreciate your help in sending this invitation to the launch of my film "Then The Wind Changed" to members of the Strathewen / Arthurs Creek Fire Brigade.

The film is not about the operational aspects of Black Saturday and does not have as its focus the extraordinary work of our CFA both during and after the fire. Rather it is an intimate and personal look at the process of recovery through the eyes of 6 individuals / families within the Strathewen community.

I would be delighted if any members of the Brigade or auxiliary would like to join us for the launch.

Jack Powell

A long time resident of Strathewen, Jack Powell, passed away last Monday.

His funeral service is to be held next Tuesday, 17 May, at 1.00 p.m. in the Arthurs Creek Hall and then go on to the Arthurs Creek Cemetery.

Mr Bob Stubley

Mr Bob Stubley passed away on Wednesday evening, 6 April, after being unwell for some time. Our thoughts are with Mrs Stubley, Gordon and Lois, Kay and Geoff, Brian and Carole and their families at this sad time.

The Service celebrating his life will be held at Bridges, Hurstbridge, at 11 a.m. Tuesday 12 April.

Strathewen & St Andrews Gardening - SGA Food For Thought Workshop

The Strathewen & St Andrews Gardening Groups invite our communities and neighbouring communities to attend two FREE workshops called "Food For Thought" on Sunday March 20th and Sunday April 3rd from 10am - 1pm at the Strathewen Community Centre.
