Changes to mnemonics at end of pager messages

With the CAD upgrade next week (around the 13th December) there will be a change to the Brigade mnemonics that are presented to Brigades when they are paged for calls.

These changes mean that Brigades and GMTs/Region staff with “all-calls” pagers will now be able to see who has been notified of an incident.

The main change for members to be aware of is the introduction of the letter C to the front of the Brigade mnemonics (this stands for CFA), for example Buninyong – BUNI will now CBUNI.

When Staff Brigades are paged, there will also be an S at the end to show that the Staff Brigade circuit only has been paged. For example, whether Hallam Staff or the full Brigade Circuit the end of the pager would have HALL at the end. Now, if the Staff are paged to the call, the mnemonic will now say CHALLS, and CHALL were the full Brigade is paged.

There are two other main changes to be aware of.

Where a Rescue is paged, the Rescue mnemonic will now be presented. For example, a car accident in Berwick may have presented with BERW and DAND at the end of the message, this will now display as CBERW and DANDR, showing that the rescue circuit for Dandenong has been paged.

The next change also involves Rescue Brigades. Were some Rescue Brigades are also required to respond a Primary appliance, both the Brigade and Rescue mnemonics will be presented, for example if Plenty Brigade is supporting South Morang to a car accident, person trapped and is required to respond both with their Rescue and a Primary Appliance, the pager message will now read at the end CPLEN CSTHM PLENR. Where an SES rescue is responded, for example Pakenham SES Rescue, PAKE1 will be at the end of the message.

Last and most definitely not least, for Brigades dispatched to support MFB calls, or where the Brigade is paged as an MFB Fireground channel is assigned, the actual channel itself will now be shown on the pager, for example FGD12 or FGD23.

As the pager message now shows the Brigade circuits that have been notified, be aware that if a Brigade is paged with a notification of an event, i.e. a non-emergency page without the ALERT for another Brigade being paged for whatever reason, then the paged Brigade’s mnemonic (always the Primary Brigade) will also appear on the message.
